Job Description

Company Overview:

Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform that includes a suite of gene editing and delivery technologies and is in the process of building internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam's suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of potential therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

Position Overview:

Beam is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and strategic Global Medical Affairs Lead (Hematology) to spearhead the global medical strategy for our sickle cell disease program (BEAM-101). In this high-impact role, the Global Medical Affairs Lead (Hematology) will develop and execute evidence-generation plans, manage stakeholder relationships, and shape external communication strategies. You will partner closely with Clinical Development, Medical Communications and Scientific Publications, Value and Evidence Strategy, Commercial, R&D, and additional cross-functional teams. If you thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment and are eager to shape the future of sickle cell disease care, we want you to bring your expertise and passion to Beam.

Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Lead global strategic planning for BEAM-101 and the hematology pipeline to ensure launch readiness, aligning Medical Affairs objectives with broader corporate goals.
    • Refine gap analyses to identify key needs and opportunities, refining strategies accordingly.
    • Own the Medical Affairs strategic plan for hematology and be a cross-functional partner to co-own the broader Brand Plan for BEAM-101 and future commercial programs in hematology
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders in the sickle cell disease community, including KOLs, healthcare providers, and patient advocacy groups.
    • Partner with Field Medical teams to plan and execute external outreach initiatives, ensuring consistent, evidence-based communication.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Chair a new BEAM-101 Medical Affairs Sub-Team, driving alignment across Clinical Development, Value and Evidence Strategy, Commercial, R&D, and other relevant teams.
    • Serve as the Medical Affairs representative on the BEAM-101 Clinical Development Sub-Team, providing strategic input and scientific expertise.
  • Evidence Generation & Data Interpretation
    • Collaborate with the Value and Evidence Strategy team to develop and implement robust evidence generation plans, including observational research (e.g., qualitative studies, natural history analyses, chart reviews, claims database studies).
    • Interpret clinical trial and real-world evidence data for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Brand Planning & Launch Readiness
    • Work closely with Commercial teams to ensure brand strategy is informed by the latest clinical insights and medical objectives.
    • Review and approve promotional and educational materials in collaboration with Medical Affairs, Advertising & Promotion, and Legal to ensure scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Compliance & Best Practices
    • Ensure adherence to GCP standards and complete necessary compliance trainings, upholding the highest ethical and scientific standards.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced clinical or scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent) required with 15+ years experience.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in hematology (clinical practice, research) and/or in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record in drug development, with rare disease experience and an existing network of hematologists preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a matrixed, cross-functional environment, combining strategic agility with strong business acumen.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% (domestic and international).
