The Electrical Estimator plays a key role within Wohlsen’s preconstruction team, responsible for developing accurate electrical cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, an understanding of the construction industry, and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and design partners.
Prepare detailed electrical estimates for assigned projects during preconstruction, design development, and competitive bidding phases.
Review drawings, specifications, and other documentation to evaluate scope and determine quantities and pricing.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure completeness and competitiveness.
Identify potential value engineering opportunities and alternatives that provide cost or schedule advantages.
Collaborate with the MEP and general estimating teams to develop complete project estimates.
Assist in the preparation and presentation of bid proposals and client deliverables.
Participate in project handoff meetings to communicate electrical scope, assumptions, and pricing strategy to project teams.
Stay current on market pricing trends, electrical code updates, and emerging technologies.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years of estimating experience focused on electrical systems in commercial or institutional construction.
Strong understanding of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage.
Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
Experience using estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble, ConEst) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Field experience in electrical construction or design-build projects.
Familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, or other modeling tools is a plus.
Experience with Procore or other construction management platforms.
